When Destinee was younger, I beat her once with my rotan (cane) on her leg. Actually I wanted to beat her on the buttock but she dodged and 'piak' the rotan went onto her calf (somewhere between the foot and knee) instead. It was a real teruk one with a deep rotan mark which swelled immediately and nearly bled. Pappy was obviously 'heart pain'.

At times even before I could reach for the rotan, she would be crying and quickly reaches for the sofa. So, her naughty corner is sitting quietly on one corner of the sofa. I'll make sure she stops crying on her own and nobody is to go to/near her to soothe her (yes, not even pappy cos she'll be crying for pappy with her symphathetic looks and tears). When she stops crying, she'll come to me and I'll ask her 'why did mommy beat u?'. She'll say 'Yau Yau naughty lor'. But as usual, she'll forget the next moment and will be up to her naughty self again. *sigh* *roll eyes*
Mommy wanted to beat me but before she could do so, I ran crying to the sofa and mommy made me sit on my 'naughty corner'. *help, help*
I noticed dat mommy was trying to take snapshots of me. I was trying to shield myself so dat she would forget about it.
Too bad, mommy ordered me to take away my hands so dat she could take snapshots of me crying. I was scared dat she would beat me so I had to obey and took away my hands unwillingly. How shameful!
After crying for a while, I was forced to stop when nobody bothered to take notice of me. Bad bad mommy, bad bad pappy and bad bad kakak! How could they do this to me? But never mind, I went to mommy and what I did was to say sorry to her, she forgave me and she even carried me.

My mum no need to beat me, because my class teacher will do. She whacked one of my classmates until both hands were swollen and couldn't write.
When I was Standard 1, and my results from Top 10 drop to #39, my mum beat me until I had to run out of the house and my grandma "saved" me. :P
One time, my mum was angry and slammed the door and it hit my toe nail. The whoe thumb came up like a flag pole and she didnt bother.
My dad one time took nylon strings to beat me because ermm... was caught red handed for stealing.
Heh~! This rotan, nothing what! Child abuse pulak... Tsk!
My hse got rotan too but hardly use to beat them...tak sampai hati lar!
Only use hand to smack them...hubby always get me beat Wien one time kau-kau wan, so that she learn from that...but me never never listen to him...for me beating is not the solution to teach our kids!

Yup, i also noticed that she's 'long'..potential modelling element leh..how old is she huh? ;)

No cane at home? Justin's still too young to be beaten with the cane. I have 3 (got them from my MIL)! One on top of the TV, one on the computer table and another in the bedroom (heehee, all within reach).
Ya ya, I beat her once and now the rotans are for 'decoration' only and oso to threaten her. From dat day onwards, she's really scared of the cane.

Tak sampai hati? Maybe ur gals are well-behaved and more obedient than dat monkey girl of mine. U haven't got to know her yet. She's a very stubborn one (oops, maybe got my genes). Sometimes she really gets on my nerves e.g. tell her not to do, she'll do on purpose; not to climb, get a chair and climb and even climb up the grilles; not to jump, she'll jump from sofa to sofa or grilles; after bathing, try to get her into her clothes, she'll run everywhere until u catch her; tell her to brush her teeth, she'll say 'wait wait'and etc, etc, etc. Haiya!

I got "rotan" at home also & kena beat by Ddy! actually not beat la just "touch" me only, and i will cry loudly...;(

I use my laser stare! If she asks me to "wait" or runs away when I try to dress her, I'll just tell her I'm not waiting, pretend to walk away and she'd come immediately. Hehe. Works everytime.
I use the rotan too but I dont' hit hard. The daddy hits really hard so the boys are very scared of their dad. Most of the time I only have to ask "Where's the rotan" , they would behave. No2 is very cheeky , if he does anything naughty ( breaking things) he will immediately go and say sorry to his dad and that it was 'accidently'.
Even my maid said it is hard to get angry with No2. My personal opinion is , if I have been taking care of my kids, loving them etc, even when they get disciplined they will know their mom still loves them. So I don't agree with all those 'voilence' claim with regards using the rotan.
(Of course use sparingly and up to a certain age only)

Pls. Leng Jai Ryan, don't report my mommy to the Child Abuse Center. Actually she didn't beat me, I always start to cry whenever I know I'm in the wrong and whenever she reach for her cane. I can't do without her cos nobody will feed me, hum me to sleep, play with me, teach me, love me like she does.

Brendan's naughty corner doesn't exist. He runs to grandma. If grandma 'piak' him, he runs to me. If I 'piak' him, he runs to kakak. Kakak doesn't 'piak'him. But he kakak not around, he 'piak' mei-mei

U have ur ways of dealing with Adrian by beating him with ur hands? Ur hands not painful meh? I did beat Destinee with my hands before. My hands will be red and so painful but she felt nothing. *duh* So use my trusty cane better (heehee).
I didnt used any cane for so long cause i saw the mark after beat my son my heart very pain. My gals didnt tried any cane b4, maybe they well behaved then my son gua. Or maybe i can 'tahan' cause my son naughty then them..haha.

yee... "the rotan is now used for threatening purpose and for using to 'sweep' things out from under the sofa or behind the TV stand" sounded familiar here leh... hahaha...
I too have naughty corner for Xuan. whenever he is naughty, i just need to say "去站住！go stand there" (without even point to the corner), he will faster go and stand there until i call him. :P
Can't buy rotan in Canada. I use my palm, Spanking is against the law here (Abuse kids). All kids over here are tought in school, once they're physical hurt, they can report to Police.They your child will be taken away by social worker.
Appropriate spanking is assential, I think. But is Spanking the only solution? we parent tent to expect immediatly result, we have no time for kids to whynign and kacau-kacau.. so we use force. this method was pass down from our parent. we inherrit to our generation.
What to do...? I think what Marial say on her blog(title: Don't scold them, they not my kid) may be a way to pratice. but this take time..
