Blogging on behalf of Elyss
Sorry to bloggers who visit my daughter’s Elyss’s blog. She’s unable to post anything at the moment. I’m apologising on her behalf. She has been very busy and very worried recently.
For bloggers who are not so familiar with Elyss – she’s my elder daughter.
Elyss went for a check-up recently when her mensus didn’t come on time. She was very positive she was not preggy and she felt very uncomfortable. She went to Pantai Cheras and was referred to a Malay so-called gynae (by the way, her name’s Suriati). After checking on her, Elyss was told by this gynae dat she had a 5x6 cm cyst (a lump with liquid, fibroid's a lump of flesh – sorry Jason, wrong info given to u when we chatted) in her ovary! Gosh! 5x6 cm! No joke, dat was a big one man! The gynae told her dat an immediate operation was to be performed.
She called me on the phone and told me what happened. I advised her to go for a 2nd opinion to be on the safe side. I recommended her to my former gynae, Dr. Ravichandran, in Gleneagles but seemed dat all the appointments were fully booked. She was later referred to a gynae in Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) for a second thorough check-up. After checking on her, the gynae told her there was nothing in her ovary!!!!! What the? Nothing? Yes, nothing! U can imagine the shocks we had. First, we were told there was cyst and needed immediate surgery and then NO CYST.
But Elyss was not satisfied and to be on the safest side, she went for a 3rd opinion. She was recommended by a relative to Dr. Jeremy Chuah (Specialist Clinic for Women) in Bangsar. The gynae did a thorough check on her. A very thorough check – with the ultra-sound showing her the ovary and etc. Her ovary was perfectly clean and no cyst at all!!! And was told dat her mensus will be dued in a few days. She was … speechless! She was so happy and at the same time angry. Happy becos no more worries about the cyst and angry becos dat so-called gynae gave her the false alarm and she was so worried until she had sleepless nites.
How could the so-called gynae do dat to her patients? Is dat a way of earning money? What if she operated on her patients and found nothing? Stitch back and tell the patient, u are perfectly okay, there’s nothing wrong with u? Huh? Or was it the 'egg' dat she saw and thought was a cyst? She could be sued for dat. Tsk, tsk, tsk, how could she be so careless, irresponsible, so ... so ... so ... (aiya, I'm out of words).
Another case was, it happened to a very close fren of mine (Elaine, Destinee’s Kai Ma). She did a check-up in Ampang Putri and was told by a Malay gynae (yes, a Malay again) dat she had a cyst in her ovary and needed operation too. I advised her to go for a 2nd opinion and she was recommended to Dr. Ravi (my former gynae) and he found nothing on her!
Malay gynaes (the young and inexperienced) – do u think we can put a trust in them? I never trusted them (soli lor to any Malay gynaes reading this out there). I'm sure there are some very good and experienced Malay gynaes.
But Elyss does have another problem. She definitely has to go for an operation tomorrow in SJMC. She has a lump near her breast. We will only know the result after the operation. Keeping my fingers crossed and praying hard for her. God Bless U, Elyss, ‘Nam Mo Or Li Toh Fatt’ – never mind, as long as anything dat’s good.

Hope everything turns out well :)
p/s: is correct to always get a 2nd opinion before a surgery
wow..luckily went to get 2nd opinion or else really nasi jadi bubur liao!!!
hope she gets well soon after the SJMC operations.
hmm..never to trust M gynaes ehh...not to say I'm racist, but anytime, I always prefer a chinese doc :)
I have race discrimination! No joke, I never trust them!
My SIL#1 undergo surgery, gynae (Mahkota Medical Center) said her ovary got blockage, after surgery only found no blockage!!?? Can u imagine that? I keep telling her sue the dr but she refuse!
Pray hard for Elyss too!
thanks goodness go for 2nd and 3rd opinion, otherwise puteh puteh kena surgery.
many years ago, I admited to Assunta because of bladder infection, after x-ray, scanning, and told my kidney got mucus, need surgery leh, and I reused to sign the paper for surgery and ask for discharge to get second opinion, they came to me the next day said they made a mistake!!!! and that was Chinese doctor.
Elyss is still young, the chance of getting breast cancer is very rare.
The lump might be just a normal fibroid, nothing serious. I have two benign lumps too in my breast, they live with me 6 years already as I didn't remove them. Maybe one fine day, when I was free, will go and remove them. :)
Hope she is getting well soon and everything turn out ok.
sigh... like this also can...
anyway, I hope everything turns out well for Elyss.
Egghead:
Yup, I do hope everything will turn out fine.
Jazzmint:
I insisted her to get a 2nd opinion, if not 'mo tiun tiun' kena potong for nothing. I believe in Chinese docs too and I do trust Indian docs more.
Jesslyn:
Elyss was advised to sue the doc too and ask her to show her proof where the cyst is but she's too worried about the other lump and she has got no mood now.
Maria:
Wua lau eh! U had the experience of receiving false alarm too? Can't imagine how these so-called doctors got their kopi-o licence *scratch head*
Jefferene:
U got lumps too. Will they grow? Elyss was told dat the lump will grow which made her worried and scared. I really hope dat the lump on her is benign too.
Shiaulin:
Ya lor. Really cannot imagine how these doctors can survive by giving wrong info to the patients.
The lumps didn't grow much for my case. Since Elyss is removing it, should be ok and no worry!
I used to check up at Tungshin hospital once or twice a year, my dr said quite commom for young lady to have such extra tissue on the breast due to hormon cahnges (back then I was only 25 yrs), my case surgery not neccessary. But want to remove also can loh, just extra scar on the breast only. :)
Janie:
Hee, hee, did I show so obviously dat I was sensitive? Not sensitive lar, worried only.
Praying to what they call 'Japanese God'? Never mind whatever we pray to as long as we are 'clean' at heart. I don't go to church, I don't have any altars at home, I don't go to mosque, I don't go to temples but I'll pray to whatever comes into my mind and follow whoever to either to churches or temples to pray *tongue out*.
Jefferene:
Dat's a very good consolation from u. Thank u very muchie.
Thank goodness for Elyss.. I know Pantai Cheras and Pantai Pandan Indah sucks.. never go there, no matter who the Dr is..
I'd heard of Jeremy Chuah.. heard he's quite good..
Gynae nowadays are quick shitty.. all they care about is cutting you open so they can make more money.
Btw, Elyss is your eldest daugther? And she already has a baby (I went to her blog). Wow, it makes you a very very young grandmother then.
Hehe. Hope Elyss will be fine after all the hu-has.
I was lucky to get a good and experience gynae (Malay Lady) in Normal Medical Specialist Centre. She told me that my baby's too big but she never say I needed to do a c-sec.
BTW, my colleague has been complaining to me that she has small lumps every since 15 years ago. She went so many times to retrieve the liquid from the lumps to check whether it's cancerous or not but it turns our to be non cancerous. As long as the lump doesn't grow bigger, I guess it's nothing to be worry about.
Zara's Mama:
U heard of Pantai Cheras and Pantai Indah too? I thought Elyss and I were the only ones exasperating. At least we have someone to *Hi Five* with. Yeah!
Ya, Dr. Jeremy Chua's a very patient and pleasant person and he handled Elyss's case very delicately.
True, true to what u've mentioned, take for e.g. C-sec. We hear of a lot of mommies being advised to go for C-sec by their docs. It's so common nowadays. During our granny's and mom's time, mana ada such thing. Ask to operate will say "sei tou ng moi hoi dou' (die oso don't want to operate).
Hahahahaha, have u been following-up with my blog? Almost everyone knows dat I'm a granny lor. Frankly speaking, I'm a very up-to-date, open minded, young-at-heart, young-at-looks *ahem, cough, cough* grandmother.
For those who are still blur-blur, Elyss is my elder daughter (from my previous marriage) and she's 28 this year (mommies around this age, I can be ur mom lor, kekekekeke) and with a 2+ daughter.
Jason:
She has gone thru the operation, only complaining about the pain, other than dat, I think she's okay.
Sabrina:
U were one of the lucky ones who was under the care of a Malay doc.
It's true dat we need not worry much. I'm sure dat's only a consolation but deep down when told dat there's a lump in the ovary, womb or breast, who's not worried and scared leh?
Elyss has the lump near her breast for some time oredi and she felt dat it was growing bigger as time past and dat was what made her worry. Finally she had to go for the operation as advised.
Wow.. thanks for sharing..
You are the youngest granny I'd ever known.. and yes, I'm sure you are very opened minded and cool.. or else you won't have a blog (most bloggers are cool.. hehe).
Btw, how is Eylss doing?
Zara's mama:
U think I'm cool? Ya, ya, dat's what Elyss's frens call me too. Hahahahaha!
Elyss is doing fine, thanks a lot.
Rachel:
Ya ya, very difficult to find very good docs nowadays unless thru recommendations. Thank u, thank u, Rach.
hey...my friend went for a 3rd opinion before she got her cyst taken out by laporoscopy!
Dinah:
No joke. How money was wasted like dat. But to be on the safe side, what to do?
Tracy i just read ur previous blog and my gynae is Dr Jeremy Chuah .. how coincidence .. i must say he is a very good doctor ..
Jessie
Ya ya, can't agree with u more dat Dr. Jeremy Chuah is not only a very good gynae but very patient too.
